One day, Pin and Dedenne came to MunHaci Park to play, like they sometimes did.
They did not like what they saw. The playground was closed because it was being repaired and they were trying to safely chop down a tree that was going to fall any day now.
“Let’s find somewhere else to play today, then,” said Dedenne.
“Okay,” said Pin.
That say, they played in MunHaci neighborhood, where they lived. A week later, the park was open again, so they came back to play.
“Let’s play hide and seek!” said Dedenne. “I’ll be the seeker. Go hide! One, two, three…” She covered her eyes.
Pin ran to hide behind the stump of the tree that had been cut down. He had twelve second left, so he could get comfortable.
“Twenty!” Dedenne walked part his stump, looking in all directions. Pin had to crawl clockwise around the stump so they would stay on opposite sides.
Dedenne walked around half the park, looking in all the hiding places she used when Pin was the seeker. She couldn’t find him anywhere. She had gone back to where she started and was about to give up when she saw movement behind the stump.
“Found you!”
Pin came out from behind the stump looking thoroughly creeped out, eyes wide and feathers fluffed up.
“You look scared,” Dedenne commented.
Pin denied it.
“Did you see something?”
“No.”
“Okay, whatever then. It’s lunchtime, so let’s meet here tomorrow.”
“Sure,” Pin agreed, but he looked like he never wanted to come back here again.
Dedenne had already turned away, though, and only heard his agreement. “Great!” she said, and headed for the park exit.
“Wait for me!” Pin panicked and ran after her.
The next day, Dedenne came to the park a few minutes late. She expected Pin would be there, annoyed at her for being tardy. But he wasn’t.
Dedenne waited. One minute turned into ten. Maybe he had to do something at the last second, she thought.
Ten minutes turned into thirty and Pin still hadn’t showed up. He can’t come, thought Dedenne. That’s the only possibility. I should go home.
Pin didn’t show up the next day, or the day after that.
“What is going on?!” Dedenne demanded of the nearest atom.
She stomped to the Owl Tree Residence where Pin lived and rang the doorbell. No one came. Dedenne looked through the windows. Not a single light was on.
Nobody’s home. Maybe they went on vacation somewhere?
“Hellooooo!” she yelled at the house. The windows rattled and the wind screamed.
No, they’re probably just at the store.
She heard a crunching sound behind her and dismissed it as the fall leaves. She didn’t think about how leaves needed something to step on them to make a crunch.
“I should go home, then, and wait two hours to come back here,” Dedenne decided.
She turned around and saw a stump that had not been there before.
“You stuffies chopped down my tree. You will pay.”
Dedenne flew out of the yard, crunching the leaves. She ran through the whole neighborhood screaming all the way back home.
